Vodafone Easybox 802This is a featured page

The Easybox 802 is a combined ADSL modem, VOIP/SIP- and UMTS/3G-enabled WLAN router and home PBX device primarily sold by Vodafone Germany (and in the past by German fixed-line phone company Arcor, prior to the aquisition of Arcor by Vodafone) in combination with a DSL internet plan. However, the device can be bought from a number of sellers independently of a internet plan.

In the so called "open" or user-defined configuration mode, the device can suit as a standalone UMTS/3G network router in combination with a compatible UMTS/3G USB modem, with any 3G network (APN can be configured without any restrictions).

Although there is no official compatibility list on the web, a lot of "classical" UMTS/3G USB modems such as the Huawei E220 and E270 and many recent USB modems work with the Easybox. Generally, it is advised to update the Box to the latest firmware from http://www.dsl-easybox.de/ (official Vodafone site) for maximum modem compatibility. Most 3G/UMTS USB sticks/dongles currently or previously sold by Vodafone can be assumed to be compatible, as well as any device by another brand of same manufacturer and type as any Vodafone modem.

Compatibility problems with some USB modems could according to user reports be solved by disabling the internal flash memory of the modem in many cases (see this Wiki for specific instructions for any particular modem).

An interesting feature of the Easybox 802 is that telephone calls over the mobile network from or to any attached telephone are possible, provided the USB modem used has that feature. Generally spoken, chances are best with recent Huawei Sticks, for instance the E160 or Vodafone K3765-HV. Two telephones can be connected to the Easybox 802 and internal calls are possible, what makes the device a small home PBX as well. It is also possible to connect ISDN phones or a ISDN PBX to the Easybox 802. The device is also SIP/VOIP-enabled as stated above, with the option to set up any SIP provider in the aforementioned user-defined configuration mode, which can be selected upon configuring the device for the first time or after a reset.

Generally, it should be possible to surf the net and make a phone call via UMTS/3G at the same time, although your experience may differ depending on the USB modem used.
