debranding

persistent (= irreversible) method
Just download and run Huawei's update for the E1550 - it will replace the dashboard in the flashmemory of the E1762 with Huawei's original generic Mobile Partner. This update is irreversible.
download E1550-Client_Software_WINMACB300D00SP01C03_(UTPS11.300.13.00.03_MAC11.301.06.00.03)_(For_WINXP&2K&Vista_&MAC)_(05019427).zip

volatile (= reversible) method

If you don't want to change the flashmemory of your E1762 permanently, you may also use the following method, by which the flashmemory will just be disabled and instead a microSD-card will be used to store an unbranded generic version of Mobile Partner. In the end you'll have the same result like with the persistent method, but it will be reversible (see below "rebranding"):

  1. Insert a microSD-card into your E1762 and format it.

  2. Download this modified version of Mobile Partner (originally UTPS11.300.05.00.03) - [mirror 1] [mirror 2] [mirror 3] [mirror 4] [mirror 5]

  3. Extract the downloaded rar file into the root of the microSD card.

  4. Run the AT-command: AT^U2DIAG=256 (how to run AT-commands) - this will disable the flashmemory, which will be replaced by the microSD-card, so after plugging in the modem from now on only the microSD-card will show up and the setup of the modified "Mobile Partner" will be run automatically.
Sometimes AT-commands will result in an "ERROR" - in this case keep reentering the AT-command until "OK" is being returned.

  5. Now you need to safely remove the flashmemory component of your 3G modem:
    • Click the "safely remove hardware" icon in the taskbar:
Windows XP: safely remove hardwareHuawei E1762 - 3G modem wiki

    • Eject the flashmemory, which should appear as "CD-Drive (X:) Mobile Partner" (or similar designation)
  6. Finally unplug and replug the 3G modem. Now only the microSD-card should appear as new drive and the modded version of Mobile Partner should be run automatically. Of course the microSD-card must remain in your E1762 in order to have installation files for Mobile Partner at hand.

rebranding

In order to get back the flashmemory follow these steps:

  1. Remove the microSD-card or format it.

  2. Run the AT-command: AT^U2DIAG=276 (how to run AT-commands) - this will reenable the flashmemory, which was replaced by the microSD-card.
Sometimes AT-commands will result in an "ERROR" - in this case keep reentering the AT-command until "OK" is being returned.

  3. Now you need to safely remove the flashmemory component of your 3G modem:
    • Click the "safely remove hardware" icon in the taskbar:
Windows XP: safely remove hardwareHuawei E1762 - 3G modem wiki

    • Eject the flashmemory, which should appear as "Huawei 3G" (or similar designation)
  4. Finally unplug and replug the 3G modem. Now the original flashmemory and, if a microSD-card is present, also the microSD-drive will appear as drives.
